Is WILD Pet Food sustainable?
Yes, WILD is sustainable.
Our dog food is made sustainably by using parts of animals not typically consumed by humans, such as carcasses, organs, and bones, which are highly nutritious for dogs. The ingredients are locally sourced and manufactured using a cold-pressed method, reducing energy consumption. The packaging is 100% recyclable, and by removing water from the raw meat before transport, we cut down emissions by 70%.
How long should transitioning my dog onto WILD Pet Food take?
Gradually transition your dog to WILD food over at least two weeks. Start with a mix of 25% WILD and 75% of their current food, slowly increasing the WILD portion each day. This helps your dog adjust to the new diet, especially if they haven't had similar food before.
I just got my delivery, but my dog won't eat it....
You should never feed WILD Pet Food by itself first time. You will need to mix with your old food. Don't get even one piece of WILD out by itself! Or you will potentially be disappointed.
You must mix into your old food over multiple weeks.
Imagine, if you've been eating a certain diet your whole life and suddenly a very different texture, smell, nutrition profile thing turns up. You would be hesitant too!
You have to slowly get your dog used to it, you cannot rush changing foods.
Rarely is your dog 'picky' they are just confused at the new thing in front of them.
You need to try and make it as similar to the old food as possible for a long period of time.
For example, if you used to feed wet, mix it in with the WILD, but then as you move onto WILD, you can also add 1 part water to 1 part WILD to make it a wet paste, then you can slowly dial that down until it is back to a dry food, as long as you are slow and patient.
Is WILD Pet Food FEDIAF approved?
Yes WILD Pet Food is FEDIAF approved. I have also completed a Level 3 Diploma in Canine Nutrition and we worked with nutritionists to develop all of our products.
Why do you only need to feed a little amount of WILD Pet Food per day?
A little goes a long way. With WILD Pet Food, you need to feed much less than raw or kibble due to its high nutritional density and the removal of 70% water from the raw meat. For specific feeding guidelines, please refer to our feeding guidelines page at the top of the website.
Why is WILD Pet Food more expensive than supermarket dog food?
WILD Pet Food is a dehydrated version of raw food, making it more affordable as 70% of water is removed. Compared to raw, it's cheaper, and when compared to other dry foods, WILD Pet Food offers 2-3 times the protein and fat content with superior quality ingredients. Higher quality and more nutrition do come at a higher cost.
What ingredients do you use?
We use zero additives, fillers, or random ingredients you can't understand. All our recipes are 80% meat and animal products and 20% fruit veggies and superfoods. We have 4 recipes you can learn about either surf and turf, beef, fish or chicken. Visit our shop to learn more: https://wildpetfood.co.uk/collections/shop
Is WILD Pet Food nutritionally complete?
WILD Pet Food is nutritionally complete. Because we use high quality ingredients, we don't need to add artificial vitamin and mineral blends. It's suitable for all dogs aged 8 weeks and older.
What part of the animal do you use?
We use the whole animal. That means lots of real meat, organs, bones and blood. The full ingredients list can be found on our Ingredients page.
What does 80:20 mean?
80:20 simply means we use 80% animal products and 20% plant products. It's the most optimised, ancestral diet for dogs that raw feeding has been doing for a long time. We've just taken the same principles and dehydrated it, making it more convenient for you.
Can puppies eat WILD Pet Food?
Yes, puppies can eat WILD Pet Food. Any dog over 8 weeks old can, in fact. It's really good for puppies because it has such a high protein content, which is amazing for their growing body. The fat and vitamin content is great for their developing brains too.
What's the manufacturing process?
The raw ingredients are flash pasteurised in an instant to kill any bacteria or pathogens. They are then gently and slowly dehydrated by using airflow at 70° until the desired moisture content is reached and, crucially, the chemical process of cooking has not started.
This results in a bacteria-free ingredient in a format that is similar to being air-dried.
Those ingredients are then turned into a flour and cold pressed together which reaches a maximum of 45degrees only at the instant they are pressed.
All in all, resulting in the closest guaranteed pathogen free alternative to raw ingredients
This means that the product is like any other dry food you might've used before. You can store it in the cupboard then simply weigh out however much you need each day and split it over 2-3 meals.
Is WILD Pet Food appropriate for my dogs' breed?
Yes! An ancestral diet like WILD Pet Food is appropriate for any dog. You don't have to worry.
Should I be worried about cross-contamination?
No, you don't need to worry. All pathogens have been removed as part of the dehydration process, that all of our ingredients go through. You can be sure that WILD Pet Food is completely safe and pathogen free.
What's the packaging?
Our small cold-pressed products (2.5kg) come in double wall paper packaging, with aluminum foil lining to seal in freshness. The larger bags are (for now) recyclable plastic as they need to be sturdier. We're working very hard to upgrade to paper here aswell. They are stitch-sealed. This means they are very hardy and do not break in transport, whilst being extremely sustainable. All bags are made from 100% recyclable materials, but please check your local council guidelines for guidance on the best way to recycle the foil lining.
I’ve heard there is a lot of dust in cold-pressed products?
Our cold-pressed method has a proprietary step with a sieving process which removes more fine ingredients than our competitors. We also test our batches for moisture content before shipping, and with the sturdy packaging, this results in a more stable product arriving to you.
Why is the protein percentage in WILD Pet Food so high? Is something wrong with the analysis?
Not at all! The reason our protein percentage looks higher than most other brands is simple: we calculate it more accurately. Here's how it works:
Most Dog Food Brands Use Fresh Ingredients: Many brands weigh their ingredients before removing the water. This makes the protein percentage look lower because the water is still included in the calculation.
What We Do Differently: We weigh our ingredients after removing the water (dehydrating). This gives you the true protein content of what your dog is eating—not a number diluted by water.
How It Compares to Raw Food: Raw food naturally contains a lot of water, but if you remove the water, the protein percentage jumps up. Our cold-pressed food has the same protein percentage as raw food after the water is taken out.
Here’s the takeaway: Our protein percentage looks high because we’re being completely honest about what’s in your dog’s food. It’s not inflated—it’s just the real amount of protein your dog is getting, similar to a high-quality raw diet but in a convenient dry form.
My dog is drinking a lot of water, what can I do?
First of all, you aren't alone. This is very common for dogs who have never been on a cold-press first.
It's to do with moisture in the food.
Even a kibble has significantly higher moisture content than cold-press. And if your dog has been on raw, that is 70% water!
Much like humans, dogs will get part of their water needs from food and part from drinking.
Cold pressing is pretty much the lowest moisture form of any dog food, as you dehydrate the ingredients to be extremely low moisture before cold pressing them together.
What then happens is because your dogs are used to getting some moisture from their food, they know they need to get more water from 'elswhere' and they just don't know when to stop drinking as they haven't learnt exactly how much water they need to take on. So they just keep drinking and drinking!
The typical solution for what you're experiencing is a few options:
1. Did you take a slow enough time to transition? We have a guide on our site - sometimes dogs need even longer to slowly transition over and learn about their new water limits.
2. You need to make sure there is enough water around so your dogs don't run out
3. This is what we recommend the most: Start mixing your WILD with water. It is also one of the big benefits of coldpress is that it re-takes on moisture (unlike kibble) and can be turned into a sort of paste/ wet food.
You can start by adding about equal parts warm water and food, let it soak for a few minutes then mash it up.
This way your dogs will still get part of their water needs from the food, so they are less reliant on drinking and less likely to drink themselves silly. You can then start reducing the amount of water slowly slowly so they can learn to be less reliant on their food for water over an extended period and less likely to enter the state they are currently in which is effectively 'panic, i don't have enough water, drink drink drink!'
We really like adding this paste to a lick-mat too, for stimulation of your dogs, its another great possibility that only cold-press can offer.
