ABOUT WILD
Is WILD Pet Food sustainable?
Yes, WILD is sustainable.
Our dog food is made sustainably by using parts of animals not typically consumed by humans, such as carcasses, organs, and bones, which are highly nutritious for dogs.
For our cold-pressed recipes, the ingredients are also locally sourced and manufactured using a cold-pressed method, reducing energy consumption.
By removing water from the raw meat before transport, we cut down emissions by 70%.
Is WILD Pet Food FEDIAF approved?
Yes WILD Pet Food is FEDIAF approved.
I have also completed a Level 3 Diploma in Canine Nutrition and we worked with vets and nutritionists to develop all of our products.
Is WILD approved by vets or nutritionists?
Yes! Ross, our founder, is a Level 3 qualified canine nutritionist, and every WILD recipe is developed in collaboration with experienced vets and nutritionists.
This means each formula is designed to provide the best possible nutrition for working dogs.
All of our recipes are also FEDIAF compliant, meeting the strict nutritional guidelines for complete and balanced dog food.
Is WILD Pet Food nutritionally complete?
WILD Pet Food is nutritionally complete. We use high quality ingredients, chosen specifically for their functionality and minimal processing methods for nutrient retention.
All of our recipes are FEDIAF compliant, meeting the strict nutrition guidelines for complete and balanced dog food.
Can I mix WILD Pet Food recipes with other foods?
Yes, you can mix WILD with other foods, including raw, wet, fresh or traditional dry food.
WILD is a complete and balanced diet, so when fed on its own, it already provides all the nutrients your dog needs. Some owners choose to feed it exclusively, while others use it alongside other foods to add variety.
If you do mix foods, it’s important to base the ratios on each food’s feeding guidelines — not simply the percentage of food you see in the bowl. For example, feeding 50% of one food by weight doesn’t necessarily mean your dog is receiving 50% of their nutritional requirements from it.
To ensure the overall diet remains balanced and appropriate for your dog’s individual needs, we’d recommend working with a qualified and insured canine nutritionist — especially for puppies or dogs with medical conditions.
What is "Working Dog Food"?
Working dog food is specifically created with the increased activity level of active/working/sporting dogs in mind. As a result, it is VAT-free.
The high protein and fat content of our 80:20 formulas (inspired by raw feeding) are the perfect match for high energy output, and muscle repair.
Activity levels vary massively, and impact daily feeding requirements, so always monitor and adjust portions as appropriate.
Can puppies eat WILD Pet Food?
Yes, puppies can eat WILD Pet Food. It's really good for puppies because it has such a high protein content, which is amazing for their growing body. The fat and vitamin content is great for their developing brains too.
The following are the minimum ages puppies can start eating WILD:
Cold-Pressed: 2 months+
Fresh Frozen: 3 months+
Why are your feeding guidelines shown in ranges, not exact amounts per weight?
Our guidelines are in ranges, rather than exact amounts, because every dog is different, even if they weigh the same. Two dogs that are both 20kg, for example, might need very different amounts of food depending on their breed, age, activity level, and overall health.
That’s why our guidelines are given as ranges - they act as a safe and sensible starting point.
From there, you can adjust slightly up or down based on how your dog looks and feels:
- If your dog seems to be gaining weight, reduce their daily portion.
- If they’re losing too much weight or seem hungrier than usual, increase slightly.
- For weight loss, a good rule of thumb is to feed 10–15% less than the guideline amount.
We always recommend monitoring your dog’s body condition score and weight every 2-4 weeks.
This flexible approach ensures your dog gets the nutrition they need while staying at a healthy weight.
How long should transitioning my dog onto WILD Pet Food take?
Gradually transition your dog to WILD food over at least two weeks. Start with a mix of 25% WILD and 75% of their current food, slowly increasing the WILD portion each day. This helps your dog adjust to the new diet, especially if they haven't had similar food before.
You must read our transition guide (click here) as we recommend different transitions depending on what your dog is used to eating currently.
What does 80:20 mean?
80:20 simply means we use 80% animal ingredients and 20% plant matter.
It's the most optimised, ancestral diet for dogs that raw feeding has been doing for a long time.
We've taken the same principles, sourced high-quality functional ingredients and minimally processed them - making it more convenient for you.
What part of the animal do you use?
We use the whole animal. That means lots of real meat, organs, bones and blood. The full ingredients list can be found on our individual product pages.
What due diligence do you carry out when selecting ingredient suppliers?
We take ingredient sourcing seriously.
Every supplier is vetted carefully, starting with our nutritionists reviewing the ingredient specifications because not all sources are nutritionally equal.
We prioritise:
✅ Top nutrition - the highest quality and most beneficial ingredients for dogs
✅ UK sourcing - supporting local farming wherever possible
✅ Sustainability - we choose ingredients which are as sustainable as possible including free run/range meats and wonky veg (wherever possible) so nothing goes to waste
This approach ensures your dog gets food that’s not only nutritious, but also responsibly and ethically sourced.
What is your Honest Maths Guarantee?
You deserve to know exactly what you're feeding your dog - no vague ingredients, no hidden maths and no shortcuts.
That's why every single one of our recipes comes with a full ingredient breakdown, with clear percentages for complete transparency. What's on the label is exactly what's in your dog's bowl.
How do we guarantee that?
While most of the pet food industry calculates ingredient percentages before processing (which can dramatically inflate the appearance of fresh meat content), we do the opposite:
Because fresh meat contains ~75% water that needs to be removed to create a dry food
Because we believe this should be the standard across the industry
Because you deserve that transparency
We weigh all of our ingredients after processing. Just an honest and accurate representation of what's actually in the food your dog eats - not what the ingredients started as.
We call this the Honest Maths Guarantee: what you see on the label is exactly what your dog is getting in their bowl.
So now, whenever you see this symbol, you know what it means.
We call this the Honest Maths Guarantee: what you see on the label is exactly what your dog is getting in their bowl.
What's the packaging?
All of our bags are made from recyclable materials. This applies to both cold-pressed and fresh frozen packaging.
As local councils restrict the types of plastic packaging that can be recycled, the easiest way to recycle WILD packaging is to visit your local, large supermarket recycling scheme and recycle there.
I just got my delivery, but my dog won't eat it....
You should never feed WILD Pet Food by itself first time. You will need to mix with your old food. Don't get even one piece of WILD out by itself or you will potentially be disappointed.
You must mix into your old food over multiple weeks.
Imagine, if you've been eating a certain diet your whole life and suddenly a very different texture, smell, nutrition profile thing turns up. You would be hesitant too!
You have to slowly get your dog used to it, you cannot rush changing foods.
Click here to go to our Troubleshooting Guide that covers what to do if your dog won't eat their new food.
ORDERING & SUBSCRIPTION
Do I have to have a subscription to order WILD?
No - subscriptions are completely optional.
Unlike some highly rated dog food brands that are only available through subscriptions, we understand that not everyone wants to commit to repeat deliveries or complete long quizzes just to place an order.
At WILD, you can choose whatever works best for you - whether that’s a one-time purchase or a flexible subscription.
Our subscriptions are designed to make life easier for dog owners, with benefits like automatic deliveries, the ability to update your recipes or bundle contents, and options to skip, pause, reschedule or cancel at any time.
But they’re never forced - they’re simply available as an option on our product pages and at checkout for customers who’d like the added convenience.
How do I make changes to my subscription?
Once your subscription is set up, you’ll receive an email with your account details.
In your account, you can:
-Skip, cancel, or reschedule deliveries

Orders placed after 3pm on Thursdays will be shipped the following Monday, to limit the amount of time the packs are in transit.
As soon as your order has been received by the courier, you’ll receive an email with your tracking details so you can follow its journey right to your door.
Can I change/cancel my order after it's been placed?
Our warehouse team works quickly, packing orders as soon as they come in and shipping them out by mid-afternoon, 5 days a week.
Because of this, it’s very difficult to catch an order before it’s shipped and once it’s picked, packed, and handed to the courier, we can’t make any changes.

COLD-PRESSED
What's the manufacturing process?
The raw ingredients are flash pasteurised in an instant to kill any bacteria or pathogens.
They are then gently and slowly dehydrated by using airflow at 70°C until the desired moisture content is reached and, crucially, the chemical process of cooking has not started.
This results in a bacteria-free ingredient in a format that is similar to being air-dried.
Those ingredients are then turned into a dry blend and cold pressed together which reaches a maximum of 45°C only at the instant they are pressed.
All in all, resulting in the closest guaranteed pathogen free alternative to raw ingredients.
This means that the product is like any other dry food you might've used before. You can store it in the cupboard then simply weigh out however much you need each day and split it over 2-3 meals.
What ingredients do you use?
We use zero additives, fillers, or random ingredients you can't understand. Our recipes are 80% animal ingredients and 20% fruit, veggies and superfoods.
All of our ingredients are dehydrated before they're weighed so you can trust that our ingredient lists and analytical constituents are exactly what's in your dog's bowl.
We have 7 core 80:20 recipes you can learn about. Visit our shop to learn more about individual recipes: https://wildpetfood.co.uk/collections/shop
Is the meat pet-grade or human grade?
Our meat comes from the same production lines as human-grade food, but we specifically choose cuts reserved for dogs and cats.
This means it’s technically pet-grade, but the quality is extremely high - just like you’d expect from WILD.
Why are your cold-pressed recipes top-rated on All About Dog Food?
WILD Pet Food is the highest-rated cold-pressed dog food on All About Dog Food, scoring 89%.
This is thanks to our commitment to:
-High-quality ingredients - 80% premium animal product and 20% fruit, veg, and superfoods.
-Transparency - we weigh ingredients after dehydration for true accuracy.
-Nutrient retention - our cold-pressing process keeps more natural goodness than traditional kibble.
-No fillers or nasties - grain-free, with no peas, legumes, artificial additives, or unnecessary bulking agents.
The site’s independent scoring system rewards foods that are nutritionally rich, responsibly made, and well-balanced - and WILD ticks every box.
Why is the protein percentage in cold-pressed so high? Is something wrong with the analysis?
Not at all! The reason our protein percentage looks higher than most other brands is simple: we calculate it more accurately.
Here's how it works:
Most Dog Food Brands Use Fresh Ingredients: Many brands weigh their ingredients before removing the water (which they have to do to create a dry food). This makes the protein percentage look lower because the water is still included in the calculation.
What We Do Differently: We weigh our ingredients after removing the water (dehydrating). This gives you the true protein content of what your dog is eating - not a number diluted by water.
How It Compares to Raw Food: Raw food naturally contains a lot of water, but if you remove the water, the protein percentage jumps up. Our cold-pressed food has the same protein percentage as raw food after the water is taken out.
Here’s the takeaway: Our protein percentage looks high because we’re being completely honest about what’s in our food (for more about our Honest Maths Guarantee, see our FAQ explainer). It’s not inflated - it’s just the real amount of protein your dog is getting, similar to a high-quality raw diet but in a convenient dry form.
Should I be worried about cross-contamination?
No, you don't need to worry. All pathogens have been removed as part of the dehydration process, that our ingredients go through. You can be sure that WILD Pet Food is completely safe and pathogen free.
Why are WILD's cold-pressed recipes more expensive than supermarket dog food?
WILD Pet Food is a dehydrated version of raw food, making it more affordable as 70% of water is removed.
Compared to raw, it's cheaper, and when compared to other dry foods, WILD Pet Food offers 2-3 times the protein and fat content with superior quality ingredients.
Higher quality and more nutrition do come at a higher cost.
Why do you only need to feed a little amount of WILD's cold-pressed per day?
A little goes a long way.
With WILD, you need to feed much less than raw or kibble due to its high nutritional density and the removal of 70% water from the raw meat.
For specific feeding guidelines, please refer to our feeding guidelines page at the top of the website.
What does "hypoallergenic" mean, and which cold-pressed recipes are hypoallergenic?
In dog food, “hypoallergenic” means the recipe is made without common ingredients that are more likely to cause allergies or sensitivities in dogs such as beef, chicken, dairy, or wheat.
Instead, it uses proteins that dogs are less likely to have been exposed to before, which can help reduce the risk of allergic reactions.
At WILD, our hypoallergenic recipes are:
-Duck 80:20
-Fish 80:20
-Herring 80:20
-Rabbit 80:20
-Bug Bakes Grain Free
-Bug Bakes with Barley + Oats
These recipes are ideal for dogs with known food allergies, intolerances, or sensitive stomachs.
If you’re unsure which recipe is right for your dog, we always recommend speaking to your vet.
How should I store cold-pressed dog food?
The easiest way is to keep WILD is in the original bag - our bags have a resealable strip across the top to keep the pellets in the best condition.
If you prefer, you can pour it into a clean, dry airtight container. Make sure the container is completely dry inside before filling it.
In both cases, store your WILD Pet Food somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight.
My dog is drinking a lot of water on your cold-pressed recipes, what can I do?
This is very common for dogs who have never been on a cold-press first. It's to do with moisture in the food.
Much like humans, dogs will get water from food and drinking.
Because your dog is used to getting some moisture from their food and their cold-pressed meals has less than they're used to, they know they need to compensate and they start drinking more.
The typical solution for what you're experiencing is a few options:
1. Slower Transition - sometimes dogs need even longer to slowly transition over and learn about their new water limits.
2. Fresh Water - ensure your dog has a constant supply of fresh, clean water.
3. Mix WILD With Water - one of the big benefits of cold-press is that it re-takes on moisture (unlike kibble) and can be turned into a sort of paste/wet food.
This way your dogs will still get part of their water needs from the food, so they are less reliant on drinking.
Can I use cold-pressed dog food to make my dog a birthday cake or other treats?
We love this idea! You can absolutely make dog-friendly birthday cake using WILD Pet Food.
As a few tips to keep it as nutritious as possible:
-Temperature: We'd recommend baking at ideally 160-170°C.
-Method: Rehydrate the pellets first with warm water then mix in 1 egg (as long as your dog doesn't have an egg sensitivity). You can then spoon it into a silicone muffin tray or small ramekin.
-Bake time: Around 15-20 minutes, just until set. You don't want it to dry out or go too crunchy.
-Portion size: Keep it small - think "treat", not full meal replacement.
-Topping ideas: A little plain dog-safe yoghurt, mashed banana or a smear of xylitol-free peanuts butter works well once the base is cooled.
If you'd prefer to avoid heat altogether, WILD also works brilliantly for no-bake "cakes" too - just rehydrated, press into a mould, chill and decorate.
Lots of our customers use WILD as their dog's treats too! We've seen some really creative ideas recently that have caught our eye.
Some other treat ideas are:
- Lick-mats: Rehydrate WILD pellets into a paste and spread across a lick mat for mental stimulation
- Icy treats: Rehydrate WILD to a thin paste and freeze in an ice-cube tray for a nice, refreshing treat during warmer months
- Out-and-about: Take a few pieces of WILD on walks and reward positive interactions/behaviour with their favourite pellets
- Treat dispensers/puzzles: Adding WILD into a dispenser toy or puzzle is great for mental stimulation
I’ve heard there is a lot of dust in cold-pressed products?
Our cold-pressed method has a proprietary step with a sieving process which removes more fine ingredients than our competitors. We also test our batches for moisture content before shipping, and with the sturdy packaging, this results in a more stable product arriving to you.
FRESH FROZEN
What's the manufacturing process?
The high-quality, human-grade raw ingredients are gently cooked - sous vide style - low and slow - at approximately 80°C to remove pathogens before being frozen into 400g portions.
Those portions are then packaged and frozen ready to be delivered to your door.
Is the meat pet-grade or human grade?
Our Fresh Frozen meat is human-grade.
This means the quality is extremely high - just like you’d expect from WILD.
Why are your Fresh Frozen recipes top-rated on All About Dog Food?
WILD Pet Food is the highest-rated Fresh Frozen dog food on All About Dog Food, scoring 95%.
This is thanks to our commitment to:
-High-quality ingredients - 80% premium animal product and 20% fruit, veg, and superfoods.
-Transparency - we list percentages of every ingredient in our recipes.
-Nutrient retention - our Fresh Frozen recipes are processed slowly - sous vide style - at approximately 80°C to lock in natural nutrients.
-No fillers or nasties - grain-free, with no peas, legumes or unnecessary bulking agents.
The site’s independent scoring system rewards foods that are nutritionally rich, responsibly made, and well-balanced - and WILD ticks every box.
What if my order arrived defrosted?
Every order is carefully packed to stay cold in transit.
We use insulated packaging and ice packs to keep your dog's food cold but external temperatures and transits can affect how frozen your packs appear on arrival.
This means your food might arrive:
Complete frozen
Partially thawed
Cold, but not frozen
All of these are completely normal - what matters is their temperature.
If your packs arrive completely frozen:
Move the packs you'll use first into the fridge to defrost
Allow around 24 hours to thaw fully
Store the rest in your freezer
If your packs arrive cold, but not frozen:
If the packs are cold to the touch or below 4°C, they are sage to use - follow the instructions above
If they are not cold, email us at contact@wildpetfood.co.uk
What is your handling and feeding advice?
To keep your dog's food safe and at it's best:
Keep packs frozen until 24 hours before you need to use them (considering their best before date, of course)
Defrost throughly before feeding
Once defrosted, keep refrigerated and store separately from other food
Use within 3 days of defrosting
Wash hands, utensils and surfaces thoroughly after handling
Should I be worried about cross-contamination?
No - WILD Fresh Frozen recipes are completely safe and pathogen-free.
Any harmful bacteria are removed as part of our gentle cooking process, making the food safe to handle and serve.
That said, we still recommend following good hygiene practices when handling your dog’s food, just as you would with your own food - such as washing hands, cleaning surfaces, and storing the food correctly after opening.
Which Fresh Frozen recipes are hypoallergenic?
In dog food, “hypoallergenic” means the recipe is made without common ingredients that are more likely to cause allergies or sensitivities in dogs such as beef, chicken, dairy, or wheat.
Instead, it uses proteins that dogs are less likely to have been exposed to before, which can help reduce the risk of allergic reactions.
Our hypoallergenic Fresh Frozen recipes are:
-Duck 80:20
-Fish 80:20
These recipes are ideal for dogs with known food allergies, intolerances, or sensitive stomachs.
If you’re unsure which recipe is right for your dog, we always recommend speaking to your vet.
How should I store Fresh Frozen recipes?
For Fresh Frozen recipes, store packs in the freezer until 24 hours before you need to use them.
When you're ready, move the packs you need from the freezer into a refrigerator (separately from other foods) and let it thaw for around 24 hours.
Once opened, use within 3 days.
